Malayalam - Kerala Official Language

Malayalam is the official language of Kerala State, is spoken by an estimated 37 million people worldwide. It is closely rekated to Tamil, from which it diverged around the fifth century AD, but boasts its own script, recently boiled down from a bewildering 900 characters to a more keyboard-friendly 51 - including 16 separate vowels. Malayalam is one of the longest single-word palindromes in English. The first Malayalam - English dictionary was written in 1872, by the German missionary Herman Gundert.
